What does your social medial workout plan look like?

Not Exactly What I Mean…

Sometimes people new to social media marketing ask me, “Rick, where do I begin? Any tips on how to get started?”

Well sure… I have lots ideas. Let’s start with one that I shared with my group today.

No Pain No Gain?

I participate in a mastermind group that’s very new when it comes to understanding “how” to succeed with social media marketing. They are very aware that in order to move forward towards their future success with their current businesses that they are going to have to tackle on this arena with an “all in” mentality.

So today, I came up with an idea that might help them stretch their social muscles, if you will, by giving them an exercise to try out for the next five days.

I challenged each one of them to go to the social media tool they’re starting to lean towards (I like to call it their “sandbox” – it’s the social media platform where they intend to “play” the most) and find a tip that someone has shared that’s related to the sandbox. Next, they need to share it with the group and tell us what they learned from it.

For example, I’ve been spending a lot of time on Twitter lately and I came across a tweet from someone who shared how to post GIFs on Twitter. I understand that GIFs are very important when it comes to tweeting. But I haven’t really looked into adding them to tweets because I don’t have a lot of experience with them. So for today’s share, I posted that link in our group’s intranet.

There are a few reasons why I think this is important for the group.

  1. They’re developing a habit of becoming more involved in their social media program
  2. They’re learning how to use their social media tools – this helps them to quickly become more of an authority not only in their niche’s, but also within the sandboxes they play in
  3. They may end up interacting more with people in their social media sandbox. Here’s a simple example: I clicked on the like button for the person who shared the tip on Twitter. While maybe they didn’t respond back, at least they know that “I” liked their post.

You Can Do It…!

If you’re just starting out with social media marketing, I recommend giving this a shot. For at least the next five days you’ll not only become more familiar with your own sandbox, but you’ll become even more comfortable with it from where you were before you began.
